Ladies Baths Mural 2026

APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED

The Randwick & Coogee Ladies Swimming Association Inc (the Association) is seeking female artists/ creatives for the inaugural Ladies Sunroom Mural at the State Heritage–listed McIver’s Ladies Baths in Coogee.

Established in 1876 and recognised for its unique status as Australia’s only remaining women-and-children-only ocean pool, the Baths hold deep cultural and social significance.

The mural program aims to transform the Sunroom into a vibrant, site-responsive artwork that celebrates the Baths’ history, community and coastal environment. Artists and creatives are encouraged to propose concepts for one or both of the Sunroom walls, drawing inspiration from the site’s unique heritage; its generations of patrons; and its spectacular natural setting along the Coogee headland.

This Expression of Interest invites female artists to submit concepts using the history and legacy of the Baths: its diverse patrons, its natural location and its flora and fauna as inspiration for one or both of the Sunroom walls. The mural is intended to be an evolving temporary artwork, remaining on display for at least 12 months before making way for future artistic interpretations of the site's rich history and community.

An expert panel comprising expertise in heritage, public art delivery, design, and art will review all portfolio submissions and create a shortlist. Up to 3 shortlisted submissions will be asked to present a concept.

The preferred submission will be presented to the Association and must be submitted to Heritage NSW for final endorsement before execution.
